Mac, A Security Guard and Organizer with SEIU Local 521 and Stand For Silicon Valley Security
I’m a security officer and I’m a renter in Sunnyvale. If I’m going to live here, I got to be able to afford to stay here. As it is stands now, working here is one thing but trying to live here is a different thing. The rents are sky high, the places are small and in order to work here, you have to live off and live in Los Banos then commute. Employers don’t look at the commute. They look at just having a body. And if I’m living here, I could provide better work. I won’t be tired, I won’t have to worry about the drive home, the accidents, and the grand total of my vehicle. And I’ll get quality time with my family. That’s the gist of it. If you don’t speak up, you don’t get heard. Closed mouths don’t get fed.
