“My name is [Anonymous] and I live in Curtner Studios. At the beginning it was a good one, because I finally had a roof over my head, but now that I’ve been there for about two and a half years I am not happy with it at all whatsoever. Yesterday they found a body in a room, and I asked the cop, please don’t tell me it’s a certain person, and he goes, “It is.
When was the last time you talked to him?” I said two weeks ago, and he said, “That’s approximately how long he’s been gone.” So while his body is in there decomposing, we were getting all the air. That’s not good for none of us, but management wasn’t around when they got rid of it. When they took his body out, management was nowhere to be found. My case manager got me here when they pulled the Jungle. I got lucky, and I got house. Not many of us are housed, and many of us have lost our housing. If I could get a different place and go somewhere else I would, but with the prices here it’s really bad. My kids just got back from Mexico, and preferably I would want something where we could be together because that’s what our main goal is. I wish I could be with them but because of the situation that I’m in, I don’t want to try until I actually settle down. But at the rate things are going, I don’t think we’re going to be able to. You know, a lot of us were born here, and want to stay here, but with the prices and the way things are going, we’re getting pushed out and a lot of us aren’t happy. I don’t want to move away, but if I have to I’m going to.”
